HeliBar

Stainless steel structural reinforcement bar for stitching cracks and strengthening failed masonry

HeliBars are slim, stainless steel helical bars that can be cut to any length to suit a variety of different remedial and new build applications. More...

In remedial settings, HeliBars bonded into the masonry with HeliBond thixotropic cementitious grout work to distribute structural loads and minimise cracking.

HeliBars are the principal components of the Helibeam System and are easily installed. Depending on the circumstances, Helibars may be bonded either into clearance holes or into slots cut into the masonry at predetermined levels.

HeliBars are manufactured from Grade 316 stainless steel for high corrosion resistance, and to a unique, hi-fin helical design that provides a large surface area to cross section for great bonding characteristics.

HeliBar starts as round stainless steel wire with a typical 0.2% proof stress of 500MPa. However, after the cold forming manufacturing process that creates the helical hi-fin design, this increases to around 1000MPa. Accordingly, HeliBars are able to provide substantial tensile properties to cracked or failed masonry when bonded in with high-performance HeliBond grout, which is able to lock tightly between the fins and to the masonry.

APPLICATIONS

  • Crack stitching. More...
  • Forming deep masonry beams.
  • Horizontal structural restraint.
  • Creating movement joints and reinforcing lintels.
  • Reinforcing unstable masonry.
  • Reconnecting separated walls.

FEATURES

  • Grade 316 stainless steel helical bars for high corrosion resistance.
  • Hi-fin profile around a small central core provides a large surface area to small cross section for high bond characteristics.
  • Great axial strength yet creates no additional stresses.
  • Accommodates differential building movement.
  • Fully concealed once installed.
  • Spreads loads to avoid secondary cracking.
  • Mitigates the potential for cracking in shrinkable materials.
  • Generates high tensile strength with mortar and HeliBond grout.
  • Good ductility to follow contours and corners.
  • May be cut and formed on site for exact fit.
  • Continuous runs created with simple overlap.
  • Minimal disruption to the building’s fabric or occupants.

HELIBAR SPECIFICATIONS

HeliBar is cold rolled under tension from single stainless steel rods to give a unique hi-fin profile that maximises the surface area available for bonding into mortar (new build applications) or HeliBond grout (remedial applications) and that wraps around a core that provides stiffness in compression and impressive and reliable tensile strength.
