Bridges

Following extensive research at the TRL, Helifix have developed a range of innovative solutions for the maintenance and strengthening of brick and stone masonry bridges, viaducts and tunnels.

Historic Lymm Bridge Stabilised

The historic Lymm bridge was fully stabilised and strengthened by Helifix with no visible signs of the concealed non-disruptive repairs.

Ancient monument stone bridge restored

A bridge built in 1792 was fully restored with concealed repairs, visually unaltered, and approved by Gloucestershire Highways and English Heritage.

Weak Grade II listed stone bridge repaired

A bridge over a river in Somerset had become weakened. Helifix repair techniques were used to quickly and cost-effectively restore the heritage structure.

Natural stone bridge repaired

This natural stone bridge carries a road over the Dulais waterway. Helifix concealed repairs and strengthening left the bridge visually unaltered.

Bridge strengthening increases load capacity

The concealed repairs and strengthening enabled the weight restriction to be increased, from 7.5 tonnes to a 40 tonne load carrying capacity.

Canal bridge repaired and strengthened

A burst water main caused movement of the spandrel and parapet walls together with separation between the arch barrel and the voussoirs.

Grade II listed railway viaduct

Long-term effects of normal wear and tear, compounded by a shallow depth of fill above, caused structural faults in this seven span viaduct.

Thermal movement cracking to church overcome

A large extension to a church had developed extensive cracking following thermal and moisture related shrinkage.

Water was wearing away the mortar bond between the outer brickwork and the inner concrete wall over the front gable.

A 130 year old church was suffering from severe structural damage. The building required sympathetic stabilisation using the concealed HeliBeam System.

A DryFix pinning and tying system was provided for a fast, effective, economical and totally concealed solution to the delamination of its elaborate and attractive roof beams.

Limestone Pinning, Christchurch

This attractive chapel, constructed from volcanic stone and clad internally with soft limestone (Oamaru stone) panels, became the interim home for the Anglican community in Christchurch following the 22 February 2011 earthquake and subsequent partial collapse of the Cathedral.
